Soham North by-election
“I believe that we should work together for the benefit of the community. People want to see results and I am determined to get results for Soham. I bring my vast experience ranging from tours of duty in Afghanistan to working in retail” Sam Mathieson
The best thing about Soham is the community spirit and I believe as a councillor I can bring my lived experience to the benefit of the whole town.
I worked for the Police and this gives me insight into crime issues. I want to see more officers on the beat and a bigger voice for the community in policing priorities.
There needs to be more for young people. It’s obvious that the Council’s Youth Policy isn’t working. I want to change that.
Soham is growing fast. Local facilities and transport need to catch up. And we absolutely must provide more affordable homes to rent or buy. I would insist the Council uses its planning powers to make this happen.
We’re the second biggest town in East Cambridgeshire and our High Street should be better. I’ll use my retail knowledge to push the Council to support local shops and businesses.
I love the countryside and will balance the benefits of open, natural environments with the needs of a growing population.
I’m an RAF veteran. I worked on the frontline in Afghanistan. It’s breaking my heart to see the current chaos. The interpreters I worked with were mission-critical. East Cambs must play its part in honouring our debts to Afghan people and provide safe refuge.
I have family experience of both visible and invisible disabilities. Having a disability shouldn’t bar people from getting jobs, being trained or receiving good customer service. I would be honoured to be the Council champion for disability rights.
I live in Soham with my wife and our four children. We got married at St Andrew’s Church, our children go to local schools and we are happily settled here. I want to make Soham the best it can be. My motto is “get in the room and get it done”.
I’m asking for your backing on September 23rd to help me deliver for Soham.
