Over and Willingham
“Let’s celebrate all that’s good about our area and if you elect me, I will work hard to make it even better. I’ll put the voice of the community at the heart of all that I do.” David Parker
Labour’s candidates for Over and Willingham in 2022
I’ve lived in Willingham for 21 years. Our children grew up here and went to the local school. As a family we enjoy the deep sense of community spirit in Willingham. It’s simply a great place to live.
Things could be even better, like me you’ve probably cursed about the potholes in our roads. And using the Guided Busway is frustrating when yet another bus sails past because it is already full. I will work with the Labour Mayor Dr Nik Johnson to bring improvements to our buses.
My top priority on the District Council will be housing. As a councillor, I will insist on 40% of affordable housing in all new developments. I want to see the Council support tenants in making sure landlords maintain homes properly. And we need to speed up the home insulation programmes to cut bills and reduce C02 emissions.
I am backing the directly elected Labour Mayor’s campaign to take back control of our buses. This means that bus services will run where people need them and with cheaper tickets. It would give us better and greener village transport so that you don’t need a car to get to the bus stop!
Let’s bring some services into the village itself. We’ve seen pop-up vaccination centres, so why not do the same with other health or advice services?
As a District Councillor, I’d want to expand leisure options here such as some of the newer Olympic sports that are engaging younger people. Not all activities require specialist amenities though. I’d like to see more clubs at venues such as the Over Community Centre and Willingham Public Hall. Sometimes it just takes a bit of help to set up and sustain community groups.
Vote for me if you want a Councillor who values community spirit and will help strengthen it further.
