A Statement from South East Cambridgeshire Labour Party
It will come as a relief to many that Boris Johnson has finally bowed to the inevitable and resigned.
Elizabeth McWilliams, constitutional spokesperson for SE Cambs Labour party said: ‘Johnson’s resignation should have happened long ago. He was always unfit for office. He has been responsible for lies, scandal and fraud on an industrial scale. All those who have been complicit should be utterly ashamed. Including Lucy Frazer MP for SE Cambs who stayed loyal to the last.’
Mrs McWilliams continued: ‘The Tories are inflicting chaos upon the country during the worst cost of living crisis in decades and they cannot now pretend they are the ones to sort it out.
They have been in power for 12 years. 12 years of economic stagnation, 12 years of declining public services, 12 years of empty promises.’
Elizabeth McWilliams concluded: ‘The country deserves better. We need a fresh start for Britain and the people of the country should be allowed to decide the next government at a General Election rather than a few thousand Conservative party members choosing from people who have been propping Johnson up throughout. It is time for a change of government. It is time for Labour.’
