Councillor Rebecca Denness of Cambridgeshire SE Labour Party reports on Labour’s Brighton conference and welcomes Labour Leader’s speech at conference

“It’s been a really exciting at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton” says Rebecca Denness of SE Cambs Labour. “I’m was delighted to be chosen as my local party’s delegate and thrilled to have been able to hear directly from Labour’s front bench during the week.”

“I’ve spoken to many delegates from around the country and the mood is such a positive one. We know we have a lot of work to do in terms of winning back the trust of voters. With the policies we’ve talked about and the team we have in place, I leave the conference with an absolute spring in my step that we have a serious plan for Government. One that voters can trust to deliver

“As a passionate believer in all things green, I was impressed with Rachel Reeve’s ambition to be the UK’s first Green Chancellor. And the policy platform of £28bn a year to be invested in the Green New Deal means we’ll be in the business of job creation to deliver a carbon neutral UK. For example, for better insulation and heating in 19 million homes.”

Speaking just after the end of the speech by Labour leader, Keir Starmer, Councillor Denness said

“The highlight of conference was today’s address from Keir Starmer. He’s set out the clear values that define him and will be central to the work of a Labour Government: work, care, equality, security. And he did this by reflecting on his own upbringing and life experiences.

“He drew together the policy announcements from the conference. Important for me was when Keir talked about criminal justice and a crack down on violence against women and on anti-social behaviour.

“As a mother of two young men, the way that Keir looked to the future and the value of education really struck a chord. He talked about a broad range of study and the importance of readiness for work. Especially equipping our youngsters with digital skills.

“The message I bring back with me is that Labour is once again a serious party determined to win power and change lives for the better.”
