Veg patch

Being outdoors, eating healthily, learning life skills, working as a team and having fun. What more could you want?  And all of these can be achieved in one simple way: grow your own veg.

A few months ago, I rebuilt the vegetable growing raised beds at my daughter’s school. They were in disrepair before, now brought back to life.

It’s enabled the teachers to teach the kids about nature, how things grow and where food comes from. The kids are also more enthusiastic about eating veg that they’ve grown themselves.

As the raised beds are made from old pallets, its also a valuable lesson to us all about the importance of reuse and repurposing.

It was a small amount of time in the scheme of things, cost next to nothing in money or new materials. But has resulted in a much enjoyment for my daughter and her classmates.

We can’t all change the world but every one of us can make small changes to our local bit of the world. Hopefully, we’ll all chose to make a change for the good of others.
