On 6 May 2021 residents in Cambridgeshire voted for change in removing a Conservative majority Council.
Following negotiations the Labour group on Cambridgeshire County Council, led by Elisa Meschini and former MEP Richard Howitt have formed a joint administration involving the Liberal Democrats and independent councillors.
One of the first acts of this new administration was to ensure that CCC will pay workers at least the real living wage, a move proposed by Councillor Meschini in March’s budget meeting but defeated by the then ruling Tory group.
Together with Nik Johnsons election as Mayor these are exciting times for Labour in SE Cambridgeshire as we now have the ability to implement changes that will benefit everyone.
Just three years ago South East Cambridgeshire was an impregnable Tory fortress with both County and District councils under their control alongside a Conservative Mayor and an MP, today only the latter remains.
As we bring about the positive changes needed we hope to continue to make gains and make Cambridgeshire a better place for all.
