Like Freddie Mercury, I too want to ride my bicycle. But there can be many hazards. Here’s a photo that always makes my family laugh. Close to the top of the Swiss Alps on a charity ride, I hit a large pothole causing me to be thrown into the deep ditch pictured.

We don’t have mountains quite this steep in our villages. However, our cyclists often face hazardous road conditions. Many of our roads have substantial potholes that cause damage to bikes and can put cyclists in A&E. We have frequently called on the Council to fix our roads, too often to no effect. If you do see a pothole or other road damage or obstruction, please report it at https://highwaysreporting.cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Cyclists and motorists are often forced to use the same often narrow roads in our villages. This is dangerous, particularly as too many of our villages lack adequate speed restriction measures. If elected I would lobby to improve the provision of good quality cycle paths and to provide effective speed restriction measures in all of our villages. Furthermore, I would fight for the money to repair the dilapidated pavements in our villages that are a danger to many of our residents, especially the elderly. I know too many who have suffered trip injuries on our cracked, uneven pavements.
