One man out and about with his dog and his thoughts
Rain or shine (or this week’s freeze) my dog Bebo still wants his walk. So wrap up warm and off we go. Some of my favourite walks since childhood are in the fields around Waterbeach. Peaceful countryside under the great big Cambridgeshire skies.
As Bebo was running about enjoying the fresh air, I reflected on how much longer I will be able to come here.
This week brought the bad news that the fields will be built over. You’d guess it was faceless bureaucrats with no local understanding. Sadly, no. Liberal Democrat Councillors including the Councillor for Milton & Waterbeach – Anna Bradnam – voted to approve outline planning permission for another 4500 houses.
Waterbeach villagers, like me, have accepted that using the old MoD barracks site for homes is a reasonable use of land. It turns a disused brownfield site into a community asset. The 6500 homes here is enough.
The extra development is a large step too far. And destroys valuable green belt.
It was a close call on the planning committee. If Councillor Bradnam had voted the other way then the green fields here at Waterbeach would have been saved.
This man and his dog want to keep our green belt. Help get the word out by sharing my blog.
