Described by local media as “colossal and cruel” the £41m of cuts proposed by Cambs CC will have dire consequences for many in the SE Cambs constituency. Abolition of lollipop ladies and many rural bus routes are just the tip of the iceberg.

Despite making over £100m of cuts over the previous three years, further reductions in central government  funding cut not just the meat from the bone but start to cut into the bone itself.

One of the biggest cuts involves care to vulnerable adults and children with £9.3m slashed from the budget. £1.4m will be saved by reducing subsidies to rural bus services, this will leave many of the more isolated areas without public transport.

Further cuts include reducing the numbers of roads gritted in winter by 1/3rd, mobile library services and removal of subsidies for educational transport. The council proposes to increase its income by imposing more fines on road users and increasing parking charges.
