Welcome to our Ely area local schools and education pages. Having the right skills and knowledge is increasingly important to get on, to build a career and earn a decent living. In Cambridgeshire especially, with its innovation and science based industries, there are opportunities for the skilled but far fewer for those without qualifications or specialist knowledge. Schools provide the foundation for these opportunities but at a time when they are most needed, the area is in danger of becoming an education and skills 'cold spot'.

The area has, despite much hard work, no schools rated outstanding by Ofsted. A number of schools have been flagged as requiring improvement and sixth form provision for many means a journey into Cambridge. Special needs provision has been cut as have many specialist services. Schools are asked, rightly, to address some of the long term issues of underachievement in parts of the area but are deprived of many of the resources and tools to do the job.

These pages will include updates and information on education issues in the local area an Labour's alternative.
