Academy chain withdraws from new Littleport schools

We produced the first version of our guide to the local school system less than a month ago (February 2016) and stated ‘The one certainty is that this will change again and again’. Already a further change with one multi academy trust abandoning the about to be built Littleport schools and another being attracted to running them. Greenwood Dale, a chain with no connection to the area has withdrawn and are being replaced by the Active Learning Trust.

ALT run five schools in Cambridgeshire including the new Isle of Ely primary. Anecdotally, they appear to be more highly regarded, have an existing local connection and some experience of running an entirely new school. However, overall it does little to help the fragmentation in the area and there will need to detailed scrutiny of their capacity to open two new schools whilst still establishing their primary school in Ely.

This will not be the only change announced over the next few months with pressure on stand alone secondary schools to join multi academy trusts and moves being made to convert more primary schools to academies.
